Problem
When launching the Payment Terminal, an error may be displayed with a message mentioning that the Payment Terminal cannot open a database, and that "It may not be a database that your application recognizes, or the file may be corrupt." Alternatively, the message may mention that "The Microsoft Jet database engine stopped the process...", "Unrecognized database format", or "The Microsoft Jet database engine stopped the process because you and another user are attempting to change the same data at the same time" instead.
Explanation
The Payment Terminal stores settings, integration credentials, and list caches in a database stored on your computer. Occasionally, some merchants may see the Payment Terminal be unable to access this database, either temporarily or permanently, due to a conflict with another program on the computer (e.g. an antivirus client, database manager, or other application). In even rarer cases, it may render the database corrupt, and require reconfiguration.
Solution
Depending on your system, a couple of solutions to this issue exist.
Reboot your computer
Often times, this issue can be fixed with a simple reboot of your computer. This stops any processes that might be accessing the settings database (and preventing the Payment Terminal from doing so), and often will fix the issue.
Reconfigure your Payment Terminal
This will temporarily disable the Payment Terminal for all users on this machine. If you are on a remote desktop server (either hosted by your company or by a cloud service provider), it's recommended to request your IT team follow these steps at a convenient time.
Additionally, you will need your Payment Terminal credentials (Company ID, Store Key, and User ID). If you do not have these, you will be unable to fully reconfigure the Payment Terminal. To get a copy of this information, refer to the initial setup emails sent to the email address on file for your company, or contact the Payment Terminal Services support team.
1. Open the program data folder.
Open the Run dialog by pressing WIN-R. In the dialog that appears, paste in %PROGRAMDATA%\Payment Terminal
and press Enter. A File Explorer window will appear.
2. Rename the configuration files.
Two files ending in .CSC
should be present in the folder that was opened - one named Settings.csc
, and one named according to your company name in QuickBooks. Change the ending of both files to .CSC.OLD
.
3. Reopen the Payment Terminal.
Open the Payment Terminal as normal. You should be given a prompt to re-enter the credentials.
4. Reconfigure the Payment Terminal for your account.
Enter in the credentials for your Payment Terminal integration account(s). The settings should automatically be loaded from the server after connecting each account.
