Problem
When opening the Payment Terminal, the user is prompted to search for the installer (PTSetup.exe
). Depending on the specific error, finding your original Payment Terminal setup file may/may not resolve the issue, and the program may/may not continue to launch.
Explanation
This process is triggered if the Payment Terminal detects that its installation is missing components. If this is detected, it attempts to use the installer to repair itself.
Solution
These problems can be caused by a number of different issues, which are each resolved differently.
Reinstall the Payment Terminal
With most issues of this nature, completely uninstalling/reinstalling the Payment Terminal will resolve this issue.
1. Open the Programs and Features applet.
This step requires Windows administrator permissions on your machine, which you may not have if the computer is in a business/enterprise environment. If you do not have these, or you are unsure, please contact your IT provider.
Open the Start Menu, type appwiz.cpl
, and press Enter. This opens the Programs and Features applet.
2. Uninstall the Payment Terminal.
When the list finishes loading, find the Payment Terminal listing. Click it, and click the Uninstall or Remove button near the top of the window.
When the uninstall process finishes, close the window.
3. Reinstall the Payment Terminal.
To avoid issues, disabling User Account Control (UAC) prior to running the installer is recommended if the standard install process did not resolve the issue.
Follow our installation guide to install the Payment Terminal. Note that old accounts/settings will be transferred over - therefore, the configuration portions of this guide are not relevant.
Register the QBFC library
After a QuickBooks update, the QBFC library may need to be re-registered. This can be confirmed with the presence of the following event in Event Viewer: Detection of product '{5B3EEC6C-387B-42F9-BBB0-98F7F504E1AA}', feature 'MainFeature' failed during request for component '{F6D8E570-057D-4F86-9B80-D3E80D01}
.
1. Open an administrative Command Prompt window.
This step requires Windows administrator permissions on your machine, which you may not have if the computer is in a business/enterprise environment. If you do not have these, or you are unsure, please contact your IT provider.
Open the Start Menu, type cmd
, and press Ctrl-Shift-Alt-Enter. This launches a Command Prompt window with administrative privileges.
2. Register the QBFC library.
At the prompt, enter in regsvr32 "C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Intuit\QuickBooks\QBFC13.dll"
, and press Enter. This will register the QBFC library for use with our software.
Check Event Viewer for missing registry keys or folders
This solution is recommended for system administrators or IT providers only.
This issue can be caused by missing registry keys or folders. If this is the case, the Application event log (viewed with Event Viewer) will contain information regarding this.
If a folder is missing, please note the path listed in the event viewer and create that directory.
If these keys are missing, please download the attached ZIP archive, and import the keys into any affected users' registries.
