Problem
During the Payment Terminal installation/update process (or, depending on your environment, when adding a new workstation), you may be prompted for your QuickBooks Admin password. Forgetting these credentials can lead to issues, either immediately or down the road.
Explanation
Certain prompts in QuickBooks can only be seen by the Admin user. During our installation process, this includes the Application Certificate dialog, Users/Passwords dialog, as well as the Edit My Company dialog. This password cannot be reset offline - it requires a per-company Intuit application, or a call to Intuit customer support. Therefore, this password cannot be reset by the Payment Terminal Services department.
Solution
These solutions should be tried in order.
Verify Admin user
It's important to verify which user is, in fact, the admin user. From any QuickBooks user, open the Company menu at the top of the screen, click Users and Passwords, followed by View Users. One user in the list will be labeled with (admin) next to their name - this is the account we're attempting to log in to.
If these options do not appear, or you are not in a multi-user environment, skip this step.
Use the Automated Password Reset Tool for QuickBooks
Contact Intuit
If you are unable to use the Automated Password Reset Tool, you will need to contact Intuit directly to reset your Admin password.
